Search engines like Google, use backlinks to rank websites on search engines. Therefore, building backlinks is crucial for any SEO campaign. In today's post, we're going to discuss which type of links are the most beneficial to rank your website on search engines i.e., the Doffollow and Nofollow backlink.

What are Dofollow & Nofollow Backlinks?
Dofollow Backlink is a link which passes link juice to boost the ranking of the website. In other words, links which are not restricted from transferring their link juice to the linked web pages. Whereas, Nofollow is a link which restricts the transferring of its link juice to linked web pages by adding 'rel=nofollow' Html tag in the hyperlink.

Which Links are Effective for Ranking?

It's a debatable topic but today we are going to understand it with real facts and data, which links are beneficial for ranking. We at Choice Techlab, an SEO Company, have run a couple of experiments to identify whether Dofollow or Nofollow links are really helpful to boost ranking. We've selected three pages, which do not have any single backlinks built earlier.

Case I - Build Dofollow & Nofollow Backlinks
Firstly, we optimised all the pages and later started building links for the page.

We've started building do-follow backlinks for one page out of a selected few. We noticed that when we build any link for this page both the types, i.e., nofollow and dofollow targeted keywords started ranking on top pages.

Case II - Build All NoFollow Backlinks
After perfectly optimising the page we started building links for this page. Before building the backlinks, the keywords for this page ranked beyond the 3rd search engine result page. For this page, we've built all links from high domain authority websites and seen improvements when we build the first link. The keywords of the selected page moved to the top of the second page. We started to build more backlinks for this page. Once all the backlinks are successfully created for the selected page; improvements are noticed and the page starts ranking on the first page.




Case III - Build All DoFollow Backlinks
Once the page has been perfectly optimised for the search engines. We started generating backlinks for the third page. After generating a few backlinks, the page started showing a positive sign of improvement in ranking. For this page, we built links from low domain authority websites but the page outranked the competitors and grabbed the top position on the search engines.

Conclusion
From our experiment, we can deduce that it is a clear myth that only dofollow backlinks influence the ranking. However, Nofollow links are effective for boosting rankings as well. Google counts links as a vote to rank any website if a link from high authority domains is considered as a vote for your website. Our research proves that both Nofollow and Dofollow are equally important to rank the websites. But, we also noticed that Dofollow backlinks are more influencing the ranking of the website. But, the diversified link profile is the winning game for any website.
